Amino acids – Life's building blocks
Protein is often cited as a basic element of all life, and with good reason!
Proteins are built on 20 different amino acids that are broken down in our bodies during digestion and transformed into bodily substance. These amino acids serve the body as building material for muscles and connective tissue. But that’s not all - amino acids also control and support numerous metabolic processes. They are important for our immune system and our performance capability, and they form endorphins and guide muscle growth. In this way, amino acids also ensure the regeneration of the musculature in cases of tissue damage and micro-injuries resulting from sporting activities.
Amino acids are classified into two categories: Essential or indispensable amino acids, and non-essential or dispensable amino acids.
Essential amino acids cannot be produced on their own or in sufficient quantities in the human body. They must be supplemented regularly through nutrition.
Non-essential amino acids can be produced by the body itself via reconstruction of the essential amino acids.
Since the body’s requirement for non-essential amino acids also increases significantly with sporting activities, supplementary protein products should feature a balanced ratio of all 20 amino acids. Otherwise there is the danger that, for instance, an insufficient amount of the non-essential amino acid glutamine is produced, thereby increasing the susceptibility to infection.
To ensure a balanced amino acids ratio, only high-grade protein sources like casein, whey, milk protein, soy and egg are used in Champ protein powders. Lower-grade protein sources such as gelatine, wheat and pea protein are not included.
